The art and history of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Sheridan, Wyoming

This beautiful little book begins with the history of Sheridan Wyoming, and the formation of the First Christian Church in 1902. What follows is a lovingly written story of the growth and development of the Sheridan community, the church congregation, its ministry, and its inspiring collection of art.

Throughout the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) building are artworks created by Sheridan County artists. Most citizens only take the opportunity to visit the Church building as a guest at weddings or funerals; however, now, through the pages of this book, you are invited to share in these marvelous gifts.

About the Author
The Rev. Doug Goodwin graduated from Northwest Christian College, now Bushnell University in Eugene, Oregon, and Brite Divinity School, Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, Texas. Doug is retired from a 50-year career in the church, having served congregations in Washington, California, Texas, Missouri, British Columbia, and Wyoming. For 34 years, he served as pastor of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Sheridan, Wyoming, which inspired him to tell the story of this remarkable congregation.

Note from the author

I have found history to be a unique challenge to put on the written page. What details are essential to share? What stories reveal the soul of the congregation? Much of this book comes from the memories of ordinary people who lived amongst us as members of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), but who now reside in the strong arms of God. So many beautiful saints of the congregation. Many of these thoughts come from my own notes, from many conversations over a long and blessed pastoral ministry with the congregation. Anecdotal stories that beg to be told. Other notes come from the research of historical records. Between memory and picture, you begin to have an idea of where we have come, the story of one congregation exploring the gift of life with an eye to the Holy.
